Hello Everyone
If you have been following me on social media, you will know that I often speak about getting things done - less talk, more action.
Consistently taking action is essential for a successful career in most leadership positions. The drive to keep “doing” must be a critical part of your work ethic. This allows you to be perceived as a person of action and will set you apart from the rest of your colleagues.
This is because every time you make a choice to take action, you’ve made a choice to move forward and discover new opportunities. So naturally, action leads to progress and progress leads to accomplishing your goals.
But isn’t this obvious? Unfortunately, no.
There are so many people who say that they will do something but don’t. They say that they will urgently call, meet a crucial deadline, or follow up on great possibilities, but they don’t. So whilst these people just talk, you must take the chance to grab attention by getting things done.
Here are some of my quick thoughts on getting things done.
If you say you will do something, do it. If you see something that has to be done, make it happen. People who keep their word and deliver positive outcomes are rare, and therefore, they stand out and prove their worth.
Identify challenges in your area of work. Then, think about possible solutions, test them out and find a senior colleague to review them. But do not be discouraged if your ideas are rejected. Your action will not go unnoticed. Just keep going and make it part of your work habit. It will pay off.
Respond to emails promptly and follow up on all pending issues. If you have an action item against your name in the minutes of a meeting, make sure you close that item well before the next one.
When you become a person of action, you’ll notice new doors open. People will begin to see the value that you bring to the company. Opportunities you never thought were possible will begin to appear. You must define who you are as a person and as a brand because no one else can do it for you. Start being seen as a person of action and you will prove your worth.
Act
You are what you do, not what you say you will do.
What will you do today to impress someone with your ability to get things done?
If you found this useful, please share this with your family, friends, and colleagues to give them a little boost too.
That’s all from me today. I wish you all the best in the week ahead.
